¨The life of a single human being is worth millions of times more than all the properties of the richest man in the world¨
Ernesto Ché Guevara
General surgeons Dr. Luis Vázquez and Dr. Annia Ramos, two young people full of love for their profession, united in work and life, a perfect couple, an unreachable team, extremely professional and coordinated, Surgeons with the hands of angels, who already have a history in this small country in Africa and a sacred place in the hearts of many Gambian families.
These two wonderful doctors operated on Aminata, that girl who arrived with only 15 days old in critical condition and returned her to life full of health, today it was Muhammed’s turn to be attended by this couple of charming Cuban doctors for whom life of a human being It is the most important thing, guided by the legacy of solidarity, altruism and kindness that Martí, Che and Fidel left us .
Muhammed, three months old, was referred from one of the remote regions of The Gambia, with the diagnosis of rectal prolapse. When he arrived at the Edward Francis Banjul National Teaching Hospital, his general condition was very poor. She presented a clinical picture of colic-type abdominal pain of five days of evolution, frequent vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Positive physical examination: tachycardia, severe dehydration with neurological depression, a distended and very painful abdomen with increased air noise, the exit of the necrotic intestine through the anus was observed. With all these elements, they diagnosed an intestinal occlusion due to advanced intestinal invagination. All preoperative measures were taken. The anesthetist Maritza, with the utmost professionalism, assisted them in surgery. The diagnosis was confirmed in Laparotomy with around 15cm of the terminal ileum and all necrotic and perforated right hemicolon. Right hemicolectomy with primary anastomosis was performed. The operation was successful and after 10 days the patient was already recovered and discharged to return home to his mother and the rest of the family.
There are so many patients that these little angels with soft and dexterous hands have brought back to life, that we almost lost the figure, there are no words of gratitude or pride that fits in our hearts, we trust and believe in them, the same as father Fidel.
¨Believing in young people is seeing in them, in addition to enthusiasm, capacity; in addition to energy, responsibility; in addition to youth, purity, heroism, character, will, love of the Homeland, faith in the Homeland! Love for the Revolution, faith in the Revolution, self-confidence, deep conviction that youth can, that youth is capable, deep conviction that great tasks can be placed on the shoulders of youth! ». Fidel Castro Ruz.
– «Glory to that youth, to the new life savers, who elevate the noble profession of doctors to the highest levels of consecration and ethics the world has ever known! They embody the kinds of doctors that billions of poor people desperately need. ” Fidel Castro Ruz
